If you want 2-meters only, I would recommend this radio. I have been told that all I love about it is due to the antenna. This thing transmits a signal that reaches farther than any other HT I know of. I do not like the way it is setup/programmed, though. It also has a decent price tag ($100 or less, last I knew).
Experience Source: My friends who go their Tech tickets in 2002 had two of these (they are husband and wife). I got to play around with them for the two weeks before I got my own radio. Obviously, this review may be invalid due to the little amount of experience.
Compared to the T2H, this radio is much more fully featured. It covers 2-meters, 220 and 440 Mhz. It does nice for such a small, portable package. I love the menu and advanced features.
There are a few drawbacks, however. It doesn't seem to transmit with the same 5 watts that the T2H does. This may be the antenna's fault. I don't believe it is as efficient as the one on the T2H. I did built and emergency 2-meter pocket J-pole antenna. This seems to allow me to have a very decent range. Again, not quite as far as the T2H. I have begun to wonder if this may also have to do with the size of the connector and the capacitive or resistive differences this would cause.
Some people have told me that my radio needs to be adjusted because the carrier is fine, but the audio is bad. Others have told me I sound perfect. I don't know. I have wondered if it was an antenna issue (before my J-pole) or if I was speaking too loudly or too softly. So this is a caveat as well.
Experience Source: This is my main radio. I have been using it for most of the 6 months I have been licensed.
