Chris Heimerdinger creates worlds. It seems he is best at creating worlds based on history and scripture. These worlds contain many fictional parts, so I would not even consider them historical fiction. I still do consider him a wonderful author. In fact he is one of my favorites.

My relationship with Mr. Heimerdinger began one day when I picked up his book Tennis Shoes Among the Nephites. Before long I was on my journey through a bit of Wyoming and into The Rainbow Cave. Chris created this cave as a means of time travel. It seems this cave takes you where you are needed... or where you need to be. I honestly hate putting down his books and it frustrates me when an adventure is over and the last page has been turned. There are several books in the Tennis Shoes Among the Nephites series. I recommend them all.

Chris is a family man and it shows. Everyone of his book teaches good principles while giving the mind and body a wonderful vacation and journey. I have read several of his books beyond the Tennis Shoes series. Some of these are Eddie Fantastic, Ben Franklin and the Chamber of Time, and Daniel and Nephi.

Many of his books do take L.D.S. scripture or ideals and turn them into fiction. This is not at all bad, but it may make them uninteresting to others. Largely this is limited to Daniel and Nephi and The Tennis Shoes Among The Nephites series. The others are really good books for anyone to read. They teach principles and have excellent stories.

I would consider him nearly on par with Tolkien and Lewis. It is his lack of history and a far more immature linguistic background that seems to be his stumbling block. Does this really matter? No, you will definitely enjoy any story by him. Depending on the genre of books you are into, you may even prefer him over Orson Scott Card. In many ways I do.

In order to fully appreciate ones opinion of books or authors, or for the opinion to be useful to one, one must study their other opinions and see what they have to say about other books and authors. It is my design to shed some light on some of my favorite authors. I also hope that it inspires you to read... and to read things that are unlike what you have read before. Enjoy.
