![]() | Della, get Paul on the phone... Paul, this is Mason. Please, check out a character on the INTERNET named Vichu! It is urgent! |
| A few hours later ... |
Perry, Paul Drake is on the phone. Line 2. He says he has the information you wanted! | ![]() |
| A few seconds later ... |
![]() | Perry, it is unbelievable! Vichu's hands're in nearly everything related to technology; especially the INTERNET! The only place with much information was his website. I suggest you start there! |
| And so it began ... |
So began my involvement with Mr. Mason. I didn't understand why they were looking for me at first. As it turns out, there was a trojan version of an e-commerce package I wrote out there. People were claiming it was the original open source version. It took me a while to convince Perry that I was not the one who did it. It infuriated me that someone was trying to give me a bad name. I started working with Mason immediately. (This is a fictitious account, obviously! Nothing like this happened, save I have written an entire e-commerce package.)
Paul Drake later asked me for a few favors. He wanted to know what people thought of himself, Mr. Mason, and Miss Della Street. I did some checks on the INTERNET and below is my report dated May 24, 2000.
To Mr. Mason and Paul Drake,
Care of the Drake Detective Agency. On behalf of myself, the Open Source Software community, and In The Days Of Yore, Inc. (my employer at the time I wrote much of N.U.E Order, though they chose to retain no rights or liabilities concerning stated package), I would like to thank you for all of your help. It surprised us, and yet didn't, that MickeyCrap Software would sink so low to sabotage their competitors as to put back doors in Open Source Software! It is good to have that cleaned up. I am awfully glad it wasn't hackers trying to get credit card numbers, although I did hear that a few did get some before people realized they had trojan versions.
If you would be so kind as to prosecute MickeyCrap Software for this and other breaches of the public trust, I would be ever so grateful. I am very tired of their antics in the market place. They have added very little to the technology of today. I do not appreciate them giving all of us bad names by releasing software the does not work.
As per the other matter: Mr. Mason, it seems that the older generation out there still esteems you highly. They often find themselves wondering why you have stopped releasing your cases in the form of a television series. I too wonder that. You need not worry about poor opinion in the minds of these individuals. However, the younger generation seems too interested in their soap operas, horror flicks, and the ilk to care much for your exploits. Some seem to think you are boring. I am sorry if this offends you, but it is the facts as I have found them... no matter how much they boggle the mind.
Mr. Drake, I would like to thank you personally for the excellent detective work your agency did. I was glad to assist on the technology side. Internet Security is a hobby of mine, though I am only a novice, maybe decent at best. I am in touch with gurus who are helping me now, I have attached their credentials to this letter so that you may use them and myself in future cases.
The public opinion of Mr. Drake seems to vary greatly. Some think he is just a side kick; only there to make Mr. Mason look good. Others believe he should be more involved. Over all, the sentiments seem to indicate that he is a good detective and indispensable to Mr. Mason. Many, including myself, wish we could know of his other cases in detail. Great work and all!
Sincerely,
"Vichu"P.S. Mr. Mason, I really enjoyed seeing your cases on television. I would like you to also know, I love your books. Keep up the excellent work.
So ended my adventure with the best lawyer around,Perry Mason; His secretary, Miss Della Street; And his hired detective, Paul Drake. Obviously, this wasn't my last experience with Mr. Mason, nor my first. I am very impressed. I hope you are as well.
