I have to be the weirdest person you will ever meet! As a young child, I really didn't listen to the radio, but I loved our piano and my parent's record and tape collection! So, obviously, I have some weird tastes and thoughts on, about, and for music.
I really love old songs like "Casey Jones" and "The Ballad of Davey Crocket." I used to listen to songs like those all day long. I also really enjoyed the "Stones" album by Neil Diamond. By the time I was 4 I was very in love with music, though adults never knew it.
I started playing the piano, somewhat by force, at age 4. I played until I was nearly 13, including taking lessons on and off (mostly on). I had some horrible teachers that just didn't know how to deal with children. My first piano teacher, Mrs. Taylor, was the best I ever had. The problem was, she moved away. I still can plink out a fairly decent right hand... just no left hand!
I started buying music at age 12 when I was reintroduced to Enya. The first time I heard her was "Orinoco Flow" in 1987. I fell in love with her sound all over again. I have been an avid music lover since then.
I have often composed songs and written poems and lyrics. As a child I had many dreams from inventing to being a movie director/writer, to making music. I have written several pieces using the piano and midi instruments. So, it came as no surprise to me that I bought a guitar. I played it for about 4 months before I ran out of time. Here, in the year 2000, I am working on making time so I can learn to play better.
So, why music? Well, music has a power that few other mediums do. I believe that power should be used to enhance lives, not to cause distress and depression. So, I try to create my own music that is positive and I share other music that is the same. So, take out your old CDs and play them. You might find your heart feeling better and your brain busy with new thoughts!
