Many people collect stamps or coins to get rich. I did it to have something interesting to do and to learn about other places and times. I really was into them both at one time. I never did have anything spactacular, like a inverted biplane, but I did have a nice collection of stamps.
So, why has my interest wained a little? Well, I started a business, I got married, I went to work for other people, I started another business, etc. On top of that, years ago, I took some bad advice about my stamp collection from someone and well, now I have a huge mess to clean up. I will do it some time.
I still do collect, I just don't put it in a album or scrap book like I used to. I keep them in protective containers in the hope that someday I can redo all my albums. And for now this works out.
Many people have very clear themes of what they collect. I collect things from history, bible (one of my prizes is a coin that is believed to be the same type as the widows mite), religion, and any number of other things that interest me. My collection talks about who I am and what my interests are.
Honestly, I think stamp and coin collecting are a great collecting hobbies. They can help children learn so much about life, history, etc. This from learning about the subject of the given item, where it came from, why it was issued, etc. And, who knows, if they are lucky, they may just have an album that is worth a lot when they are old. Such a hobby can be great for the entire family to participate in as well.
