| Sites I Have/Am Working On/For (in one way or another) |
I started using the Internet in late 1995. I quickly found web-chat, different search engines, and some real power sites for things I was interested in at the time. I soon found that I was out on the porch; I had no homepage.
Though I was never one to follow the crowd, I quickly started searching for sites on HTML and Javascript. By the time I was finished, I had a very ugly site and had some mix of HTML 2 to 3.2 as my tongue. I soon had a friend make a "Silent Walker" (a name I went by in web-chat) image for me. I started using tables, and my website really perked up. Always a performance and space conscious nut, I made it as small as possible, while still making it functional and pleasing to the eye.
Over the years I helped anyone who wanted it/needed it. Many paid, some didn't. I did a few sites on contract. Due to requests by the customer, some turned out to be very ugly indeed. Most of these companies have redesigned their sites, gone offline, or changed the focus of their business (forcing a drop in my designs). In the process of this, I have learned HTML very well. Professional graphics are much easier and more beautiful. I have since mastered DHTML and HTML 3.2. HTML 4.0 and CSS are about mastered. Java, C#, XHTML 1.x, and XML are areas I am advancing as browsers implement these or there is more need from customers.
I am extremely comfortable with using C and PHP to make dynamic, database driven websites. This website is currently being reworked to take advantages of such technologies. Most websites, to be useful, require such technologies. Unfortunately, not all graphic/web designers are capable of using such things, however, they are usually able to work with individuals who can.
Through all of this, I have maintained the belief that a site must be functional and easy to use first and beautiful second. A site must load fast, or it isn't worth the few hundred thousand bytes that make it up. In many cases, a site can still be very aesthetically pleasing.
I do contract work when it is requested. My rates are reasonable and I do complete work quickly. Please be aware, I am very busy at times, so if you want my services, expect to pay me what I am worth. If you worry that my work is all the same, never fear, I do have my personal favorites, and some companies have dictated their look. I do listen to the customer and give them a unique or classic style site. Your wants will be filled within the ability of the technology to do what you request.
